Designing for Juhu
Juhu is one of the few parts of Mumbai where independent bungalows with gardens are still common. The JVPD Scheme and the lanes behind the beach have homes set on proper plots, with trees, compound walls and room to breathe.
That makes Juhu a place where architecture, interiors and landscape can be designed together. We think about how a garden, a verandah and the rooms inside connect, how sea breezes cross the house, and how deep roofs and overhangs protect walls and windows from monsoon rain.
Sites close to the beach fall under Coastal Regulation Zone rules, and the area is close to the airport, which can limit building heights. We look at both before design begins so that the plan is realistic from the first sketch.
